Animal Poison Control

We had a scare with the bunny yesterday. I must have accidently dropped a pill at some point without knowing and she found it during her routine canvas of every square inch of the rug. I heard it when she bit into it but thankfully it must have tasted awful so she spit it out and really only got a tiny fraction. I try to be really careful with my medications for just this reason. Once I dropped a pill and spent three hours looking for it until I found it because I knew she would get it eventually. I guess I was bound to miss one someday.

It was a really obscure medication and our vet was closed but I now know the ASPCA has a really great animal poison control hotline. There is a $65 fee for calling but it is so worth it, they have vets on staff 24/7 and a huge database for medication reactions on many types of animals. They were so helpful to us. If your pet ever gets a hold of something and needs help I really recommend giving them a call!

Lil’Chief is going to be fine! :D

E.E… . eeeee?

The bunny looks so cute right now, she is laying on the floor wrapped up in a Captain D’s flier. (she will only lay on smooth surfaces so we put fliers down, but she wants the shiny ones not the newspaper-y ones, picky bun!!)

So, I’ve decided to take a break from Eden Eternal. (I still need to post screenshots…. but here is an avatar and sig I made)

I think I’ve been playing for about two months?  Maybe more?

PJ and Tobi got bored with it and quit around level 40 and Josh stopped playing at 51. I hit the level cap (55) and I have four jobs that are 50+ (Hunter, Cleric, Bard, Engineer) and all of my jobs are at least 30+ with the exception of Warlock because I have yet to unlock it.

I guess there just wasn’t much that I wanted to do. The PvP was very disappointing! They released Territory Wars but it is an unorganized zerg-fest with no real goals and only two teams, attacking and defending, so it is the whole server VS one guild. I thought to myself “it’s ok, arena will be fun!” but you can’t even join arena as a team, it pairs you with random people…

I never care too much about gear in most MMO’s since the level cap is constantly being raised. (with the exception of games like Ragnarok Online where gear changes are years apart) Nothing was really left for me to do except get all of my jobs to 55 but I was pretty burnt out on grinding. I’m not quitting though, just taking a break. I can’t quit, Josh and I spent over $200 on that game. D:! (LOL) Also I met some great people in the guild I joined. (Symphony) It turns out that one guy I met was in the same guild as me in Ragnarok Online 7 or 8 years ago! (Mystic Elves on iRO Sakray, Sakray was the small test server so it is quite a coincidence!)

Josh and PJ are playing Battlestar Galactica now. I have no interest in playing it but we decided to re-watch the show… this pleases me!

The art in my sig wasn’t drawn by me. Half of it I assembled from Tinierme parts which I then photoshopped the shit out of and the body is from a screenshot I took. (I don’t even play Tinierme…lol) It came out well, it is even cuter than my EE char.

I should draw something though! I can’t even remember the last time I drew something for myself.

Dansu

Perfume is having a dance contest…

http://www.perfume-web.jp/miseyoJPN/

The winning group gets to dance with Perfume on stage. I wish I had a group to dance with! ;o;

You are supposed to dance the first part of this video and create your own moves for the second half.

I never reblog anything but I feel I need to add a comment to this since no one seems to recognize it. This picture is from the PC game “The Legend of Kyrandia Book Two: The Hand of Fate”
It is an old game (1993) but it is freakin’ awesome! You play as a kickass female alchemist named Zanthia who can change her outfit by snapping her fingers and you mix your own potions in a glass cauldron. Definitely one of my favorite childhood games, now I want to go play it again!

Double Spacing

I am probably among the very last Americans who learned to type on an old fashioned typewriter. I did take typing starting in middle school but I had already learned to type at home. (I’m only in my 20’s but I was always learning things on my own) My current problem is that double spacing after a period is now incorrect but it is burned into my brain and I can’t get it out. There is no longer a need to type a double space after a period. In the days of typewriters a double space after a sentence made it much easier to read because most typewriters used “mono spaced fonts”

This article explains it all: http://www.slate.com/id/2281146/

I’ve been trying to break this habit for a while but it is difficult since I learned to type when I was so young. I didn’t even realize double spacing was incorrect until more recently using things like Tumblr which can get screwed up if you double space. It is making me a little crazy but I’m getting better at it.

Ugh, Facebook

I regret ever joining Facebook.  I joined it much later than everyone else and it was pretty much just to talk to my grandmother and sister. (I hate using the phone)

Did I already rant about this…?

Now I have lots of extended family on my friends list and people from high school requesting to add me.  (I was accepting at first but now I ignore most requests)  I hated my childhood, where I grew up and almost everyone involved and I prefer a world where once you move away you only see those people every ten years at an optional reunion.

I just really hate the lack of privacy.  I have no pictures of myself on there with the exception of childhood pictures which my family has posted.  The only “interest” I have listed is nuclear fusion and I only “like” things which people have specifically asked me to. (for example, my parent’s catering business)  Also sometimes I hit like on something someone says or posts.

It doesn’t matter if you delete your profile, they have already compiled and sold all of your personal information so I am grateful that I was never very fourth coming with it in the first place.  Yes, I have a blog and a website so if you surf around and stalk me you could figure out my interests but I’m not going to hand it to them on a silver fucking platter.  The trick is that people LOVE to talk about themselves. You can put a form in front of someone and ask them to write down their favorite tv shows and sports teams and they will jump at the chance.  The irony is that the only ones who give a shit about what you like besides yourself are corporations and the government. Not even your friends and family give a shit, they are too self absorbed in their own interests. I am under no delusions that anyone reads what I type.  I just keep a blog for myself so I can look back someday and read about whatever pissed me off on a particular day.

People who hate Facebook just say “durrr, move to Google+, way better!”

—Newsflash—  It’s the same fucking thing! -and Google already has all of your info, I’m surprised they don’t automatically fill in your profile for you

Eden Eternal

Unfortunately I haven’t been posting much even though I have a lot to write about.  I was playing a lot of Eden Eternal with some irl friends but our group seems to have broken up lately.  I need to post some screenshots!

Pop

I wonder, if the Earth were larger or had more landmass, would the human population be similar to what it is currently or would it be far larger?  I’m guessing that animal populations probably grow to fit their environment but there are still some lovely parts of the Earth with very few people.

The Cosmos Part 1

I‘ve always been heavily interested in Cosmology and Astronomy. (that is Cosmology, NOT Cosmetology)

When I was just learning to talk I would stare at the moon (which I pronounced “moony”) for long periods of time. My great grandfather would hold me up and I would stretch out my arms trying to touch it.

In my elementary school years my grandfather got me my first telescope and some astronomy magazines. Since we lived in a rural area I had a wonderful view of the stars. I memorized star charts and knew the constellations by heart. Unfortunately I didn’t have any friends with the same interests so I studied on my own. My telescope was powerful enough to see Saturn’s rings. (although it only looked like a yellow dot with one large ring around it, it was still pretty incredible to me) Also, although I could see the moon in great detail I had lost most of my interest in it. I suppose that is a normal reaction after moving on to observe things which are much further away.

Some of my best childhood memories are of floating on my back in our pool in the middle of the night. It feels like you are in space. I would actually hold onto the pool ladder because I felt like I would fall into the sky. The best time to experience this is during a town-wide power outage!

After a while even my interest in the planets and constellations started to wane. Although the constellations are a useful tool when locating stellar objects they are just arbitrary shapes relative to our place in the universe. The other planets in our solar system just seemed like a collection of dead rocks and typical gas giants. I had much larger questions about the universe but no one to answer them. Unfortunately my education in rural South Carolina was absolute garbage. (although I am thankful to have had any education at all since a lot of the world does not have that luxury) I wanted to read more about Cosmology but this was prior to having Internet access and the subjects were far beyond my local library. My telescope days were cut short after my asshole neighbor got a giant floodlight which he pointed into our yard and refused to take it down.

I recall a night in fifth or sixth grade where I couldn’t sleep and I came up with an idea about how the universe might work. I wrote it down in a notebook and called it “Nicole’s Theory of the Universe” (lol…how cute…) It stated that if the universe is infinite, the best model we have to visualize the universe is by using numbers. If something is infinite then it MUST have repeating patterns, you will always encounter the same things over and over in every possible combination although they may be far apart. Because of this, if you travel far enough away you will encounter a part of the universe exactly like ours again and again. This would include multiple Earths that are the same as ours or slightly different. As a kid I didn’t know about things like spatial dimensions so this was all assuming this would take place in our same physical world, just spaced very far apart. (I also didn’t know what we call “the universe” is only referring to what we can see which is expanding. I thought of the universe as “space that goes on forever”)

Of course I later found out that this idea is not original, it is known as a “level 1” type of Multiverse. However I am still quite impressed with my childhood self.

When I was in high school my mom suggested that I watch “Cosmos” by Carl Sagan. She loved it when she watched it as a kid and she knew that I would enjoy it.

I instantly fell in love with Cosmos. Carl Sagan was absolutely amazing. He described even complex concepts in a way that most people can understand. The order which he presented things and the examples he used are just perfect. I really recommend that anyone with any interest in science and our world should watch it. Even though the show is now so old and out of date I think it is still a great jumping off point to learning about our universe. It explained a lot to me (and in the tradition of science, answers to questions just raise further questions) and even similar series which are more recent (The Universe for example) and still wonderful just don’t compare to Cosmos in my opinion. Cosmos also reignited my interest in our own solar system. It isn’t a bunch of dead rocks at all, it is an amazing place with tons of things we have yet to see and I wouldn’t be surprised if there is simple life on one of the outer planets’ moons. Even our own moon is really amazing. It influences the Earth so much and we probably wouldn’t be here without it. It is HUGE in relation to the size of our planet which is very unusual for a moon and it has an eerie beauty the way it is the perfect distance from our planet to appear the same size as our sun in the sky which gives us those beautiful solar eclipses.

My favorite things to read about now are particle physics and spatial dimensions (specifically four dimensional space). Now thanks to the both wonderful and horrible monster known as the internet I can spend thousands and thousands of hours reading about all types of science without having to actually be a part of that community. Not that I wouldn’t love to be a part of it…! I’m not sure what I could contribute. Maybe someday I will try but for now I am content to just observe.

Welcome! All posts are original to this blog.

xoxo,
-Yaisha
